Locally heavy rain possible in storms [ Local Stories]

NOAA updated the Hurricane Seasonal Forecast saying an above average season is now more likely.
An average hurricane season has 12 storms, 6 hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes.
NOAA is forecasting 10-17 named storms, 5-9 hurricanes and 2-4 major hurricanes.
The forecast includes Andrea and Barry that happened earlier this year.
The reason for an above average season: El Nino is no longer in effect. El Nino causes the strong upper level winds that can tear apart a tropical system. The Atlantic sea surface temperatures are running 1/2 degree above average. Warm water is the fuel for tropical systems. The West African Monsoon is active. This time of the year we watch areas of disturbed weather moving off of Africa. Easterly waves are the seeds for tropical development over the warm water. August, September and October are the most active months for Hurricane Season.
