12 New Orleans museums grant free admission on Sept. 21 as part of Smithsonian’s Museum Day promotion - [Curbed New Orleans - All]

2019 has been a good year for museum lovers in New Orleans. First, the Audubon Nature Institute rolled out free admission for locals each Wednesday; the new Historic New Orleans Collection expansion opened; then, the new Louisiana Children’s Museum site opened.

Now, a perennial favorite is right around the corner: Museum Day. As part of Smithsonian magazine’s annual Museum Day event, 12 New Orleans museums offer free admission on Saturday, Sept. 21. Those locations are listed below.

More than 1,600 museums nationwide offer free admission on Museum Day. This year’s theme is “Year of Music” Participants must visit the Smithsonian website and download a pass to receive free entry. Passes are limited to one per person, and each pass admits two.
