Longtime Haven for New Orleans Vegans Closes After Nine Years on Magazine Street - [Eater New Orleans - All]

Superfood Bar closed this week

After nine years as a top New Orleans destination for raw, vegan, and gluten-free food, Superfood Bar closed its doors on Magazine Street this week, as announced by owner Joseph Stone via Instagram.

Stone opened the health-food hub first as a walk-up counter on Magazine Street in 2010, serving strictly raw food items and pressed juices. Two years later he partnered with chef Amie Havens and expanded to a small cafe, also on Magazine, broadening Superfood’s offerings to include breakfast, lunch, and non-raw options.

Aiming to craft nutrient-dense food that is only “incidentally vegan,” Superfood Bar served an array of colorful smoothies, cold-pressed juices, salads, bowls, and wraps. The pair were known for a commitment to ingredients, or maybe as much for what they didn’t use — anything dried, frozen, juiced, pasteurized, or any kind of sugar or flours.

Stone opened a second location of Superfood Bar in Denver two years ago that remains open. Eater reached out to Stone, who now lives in Boulder, about future plans for Superfood Bar in Colorado and will update this post if we hear back.
