Governor Jindal wants Louisiana counted | WWL - AM870

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal Friday announced an effort to remind Louisiana residents to take part in the upcoming U.S. Census.

Saying the state's population count is the deciding factor in important things like federal funds for roads, bridges, healthcare and education, the governor today announced the creation of the Louisiana Complete Count Committee.

Jindal Vetoes New Orleans Mental, Health Services: Louisiana DHH Comments

The following is a statement from DHH Secretary Alan Levine on Mental Health Services in New Orleans and Veto of New Orleans Adolescent Hospital:
It is clear Gov. Jindal has listened to the stakeholders and decided to follow the evidence by opening two new clinics in New Orleans, maintaining the inpatient bed count in the region and adding new community- and home-based services. Without a veto of the New Orleans Adolescent Hospital, which was underfunded by HB 881, DHH would have been forced to make cuts that would harm New Orleans-area children, adults and families.

Governor Jindal Playing Chicken With Mega-Project Fund

Jindal unwisely has continued the Louisiana Mega-Project Fund, created a few months before he took office, and more than doubled it size to pushing $420 million now. The fund is supposed to provide capital to firms that create 500 new jobs in the state and make a minimum initial investment of $100 million; the state can’t provide more than 30 percent of the total project cost, and until a few days ago never had been committed to use.

Scientists boycott Louisiana because of law

The Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology contends that education is the only way for science to thrive. Recently, the Society boycotted Louisiana, which has a law that the Society says is detrimental to important scientific education in that state. The law in question is SB 561. It was signed by Gov. Bobby Jindal and is titled the "Louisiana Academic Freedom Act."
