Terence Blanchard records new album | ShreveportTimes | The Times


Since emerging on the scene in 1980 with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra and then shortly thereafter with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Blanchard has been a leading artist in jazz.

Terence Blanchard's career spanning nearly three decades, which includes roughly 50 film scores and more than a dozen albums, he never once recorded an album in New Orleans.

That is until now.

After making an appearance on this year's Grammy awards show in a special segment celebrating New Orleans music, Blanchard, 47, said there was no better place to record his latest album, "Choices," than at home.

"A Tale of God's Will," which earned him a Grammy in 2007 for best large jazz ensemble album. Blanchard was also nominated that year for best jazz instrumental solo for "Levees," the track from that album he composed for Spike Lee's HBO documentary "When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts."
