According to Wikipedia the definition of krewe is: A Krewe (pronounced in the same way as "crew") is an organization that puts on a parade and or a ball for the Carnival season. The term is best known for its association with New Orleans Mardi Gras, but is also used in other Carnival celebrations around the Gulf of Mexico, such as the Gasparilla Pirate Festival in Tampa, Florida, and Springtime Tallahassee as well as in La Crosse, Wisconsin
It began with a simple question, “So, just what exactly is a krewe?” … And so we set out to “decode the krewes” as Mardi Gras fever grips the Capital City.

The question of the season, "When do the Parades Roll?!"
The Green room is smoking, and the Plaza buning down
Throw my baby out the window, let those joints burn down
All because it's Carnival Time

Hurricane Katrina’s lingering effects played a role in Aquila’s inability to roll this year, but it was the tanking economy that provided the knockout blow. Members struggling with their own finances could no longer justify spending hundreds of dollars to throw beads for three hours.
Some say it’s a story of the haves and have-nots, survival of the strongest.

In 2007, Mr. Kern founded one of the most innovative nonprofits in New Orleans, the First Responders Fund. Created by New Orleans' own Blaine Kern Sr., The mastermind producing Mardi Gras for over 60 years, the Krewe of Boo will be unlike any other parade in the world. Not only is the Krewe of Boo the first Halloween Parade in New Orleans history, it is the first parade with a charitable cause! Mr. Kern's vision for this unique event was to give back to New Orleans first responders the best way he knows how...by throwing a party! Every dollar generated by the Krewe of Boo benefits New Orleans police, fire, and EMS personnel.
