Ogden Playdate: Beach Blanket Bing-O | Ogden Museum

June 26, 2010 - 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Patrick F. Taylor Library

Benefitting the Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program

A special dance party for kids and their parents at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art to celebrate our beautiful Gulf, its beaches, wonderful sea life and everything it means to us—with special musical guest Susan Cowsill, of the legendary Cowsill family band – the real-life "Partridges"!

Come dance your heart out and show how much you love the Gulf Coast and the Gulf of Mexico. Dress as your favorite Gulf creature—land, air, or sea. Or just wear your bathing suit.

Admission is the donation of an original piece of artwork by your child. Please work on 8 1/2" by 11" paper – the rest is up to your imagination.

If you've wondered what you can do to help: The Museum will be displaying and selling the artwork at the Playdate and at the next Ogden After Hours on July 1, 2010, with all proceeds going to the Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program. If you're old enough to hold a crayon or a brush, you're old enough to help.

A program of the Kohlmeyer Circle, a group of young arts and cultural enthusiasts that supports the Museum, Ogden Playdate is a series of one-of-a-kind experiences for parents to share with their children. The first Playdate was June 5 at Alex Beard Studio in the French Quarter. The Ogden Playdate is possible through a generous donation from Phelps Dunbar, LLC.

FREE and open to the public. The Museum will have milk and homemade cookies for the kids and a specialty cocktail for the grown-ups.

Beyond the Blues: Reflections of African America | NOMA.org

April 10 - July 11

Beyond the Blues:

Reflections of African America in the Fine Arts Collection of the Amistad Research Center
(organized by NOMA and the Amistad Research Center) (EWF Galleries)

The Amistad Research Center, located on the Tulane University campus, is the nation's largest independent archive specializing in the history of African Americans and other minority ethnic groups. A lesser known aspect of the Center is its extraordinary collection of fine art dating from the nineteenth century to the present day.

Beyond the Blues: Reflections of African America in the Fine Arts Collection of the Amistad Research Center, presented by the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Amistad Research Center, marks a long overdue public access to these remarkable works of art. The exhibition will feature nearly 150 works including paintings, prints, and sculpture, as well as archival materials such as letters and sketchbooks, providing a fascinating glimpse of the artistic process. Like the Collection itself, the exhibition is a map that charts change in American visual arts while highlighting African American connections passed, like a baton, over the course of a century from one generation to the next.

The New Orleans Museum of Art is located in City Park, convenient to the City Park/Metairie Road exit of 1-10. The Museum may be reached by street car from the Carrollton line extending from the Canal Street line, or by public bus via the Carrollton Avenue or Esplanade Avenue lines of the RTA.
