New Orleans WWII Museum adds theater, restaurant and "canteen" | Suburban Chicago's Information Source - Daily Herald

National World War II Museum dedicated a $60 million expansion with a new theater, a restaurant and a replica of the "Stage Door Canteens" that cheered military men during the war. Hundreds of World War II veterans were on hand for Friday's ceremony including Tom Hanks, Patricia Clarkson and Mickey Rooney.

The National World War II museum celebrates the grand opening for the new section, to the right, Solomon Victory Theater, Stage Door Canteen and the American Seactor Friday.

Tennessee Williams Fest: Stella!

March 29th, 2009 —  Each year hundreds gather in the French Quarter for the Tennessee Williams Festival. One of the big draws is a contest to see who can best emulate Stanley Kowalski from A Streetcar Named Desire, most famously played in the film adaptation by Marlon Brando. For this year, the winner was Matt Payne of New Orleans. Photographer Walter Brandell shot the event.

93-year-old New Orleans theater lays off staff

The board operating Le Petit Theatre announced Friday that it will not close but has accepted management help from The Solomon Group, an entertainment management company headed up by Gary Solomon, Jr.

New plans for the 93-year-old theater include a new business model that will expand the uses of the facility, which is near the Cabildo and St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square.

Bossier City plans $15M arts center

Bossier City Mayor Lorenz "Lo" Walker dropped a bombshell during a city workshop Tuesday: the state has agreed to fund a $15 million performing arts center to tie into the Louisiana Boardwalk.
