From Louisiana to Georgia, Snow Dusts the South

An early December snow storm moved up the East Coast, dumping several inches of snow as far south as Louisiana. Snow caused a few cancellations at Washington's Dulles International Airport.

River Reaches a Point Never Before Touched-Subsiding Now.
[June 21, 1893]

The river yesterday reached the highest known mark at this place, but by noon today the gaguge registered a fall of two inches. The fine weather, compared to the rain and wind of the day before, may have had something to do with this, but it is generally accepted as bearing out the prediction of the chiefs of the United States and State Engineer Bureaus here, who claimed that the highest point had been reached by the river and that unless there should be a succession of storms the water would steadily decline and that the greater danger was past.

Satellite data indicate that the area of low pressure located east Of the Lesser Antilles has strengthened into tropical storm Henri... The eighth named tropical cyclone of the season. At 500 PM AST... 2100 UTC...the center of tropical storm Henri was located near Latitude 17.8 north... Longitude 54.0 west or about 600 miles... 965 Km... East of the northern Leeward Islands.

Government to help

The Ground Water Resources Program of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources Office of Conservation is alerting farmers that the program is ready to help farmers install new wells if needed for irrigating.

New, replacement or drought-relief wells will all be part of the assistance program for farmers drilling the wells.

Revised flood-risk maps for New Orleans presented | NOLA.com | Times Picayune

Newly revised Preliminary Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps showing the potential for flooding caused by a 100-year rainfall and hurricane-strength surge for New Orleans will be available for review and discussion at a Wednesday open house in City Park from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Pavilion of the Two Sisters in the City Park Botanical Gardens.
